Wacky Hair Day at School

Today Room 13 taught us how to add ones, tens and hundreds.

They are good teachers.

Thank you Room 13.

Boys college came down to school today. They taught us games. We had heaps of fun. They played too.

They are going to come back next week and paly some more games.

My Teddy Bear

He is furry and dusty.

He has a brown jacket that has lots of interesting badges on it.

He has a special greenstone necklace called pounamu.

He has droopy ears and shining black eyes.

We went to Nelson Museum and the Cat in the Hat told us a story about the pedlar and the monkey. The Cat in the Hat sang songs. The Cat in the Hat showed us all sorts of hats and we found out when they are worn and why they are worn.

We designed hats. It was fun.

Clifford the Big Red Dog visited our classroom today. He told us about lots of new books that are in our library.

Emma got a big cuddle from Clifford.

Natureland

We went to Natureland to find out what foods animals eat to get energy.

We found out that some animals are herbivores, they only eat plants.

Some are carnivores, they only eat other animals.

Some are omnivores they eat both plants and animals.

We looked for the tuatara but it is sleeping in it's burrow for the winter.

We saw lots of birds and animals. Some birds like the kiwi are carnivores but most are omnivores. They eat insects and plants.


Petra the possum was soft and fluffy but she was smelly.

We played a game called pests in the forest.

Healthy smiley faces

We made smiley face sandwiches for our morning tea. We got a piece of bread and a slice of luncheon sausage on top of this we made the face. We used carrots and raisins for eyes and ears, cheese for the nose, tomato for the mouth and lettuce for the hair.

They were yummy.

Owls in Autumn

Lou came and helped us paint our owls that had been fired in the kiln. We used earth colours.

Pottery at the Suter Art Gallery

We went to the Suter Art Gallery and Esther taught us how to make slabwork dragonflies, bats and planes. We had to roll the clay pencil thick, we cut out the patterns and put the clay pieces together by sponging, scratching, wriggling and smoothing. Our clay works were fired in a kiln.

When we came back to school we made slabwork owls. We are very proud of our owls.

Room 7's Edible Garden

We planted lettuce, brussel sprouts, beans, carrots and spinach in our garden. We have a problem with the birds pecking at our plants so we covered the garden with bird netting. But the birds landed on the netting and ate our lettuce, brussel sprouts and spinach plants. We got some sticks from Ray our caretaker and made a scarecrow to frighten the birds away. Our plants are starting to grow at last.
